It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve had a ton of personal projects running behind the scenes and a steady stream of commissions keeping me busy, so it’s honestly been a minute since I sat down to draw something just for myself.
I decided to jump back in with a quick study of Fern from Frieren. Between the IT work and everything else on my plate, I didn’t want to spend all night on it, so I pushed myself to finish the whole thing in just one hour.
I can definitely see some improvement—or at least, I’m getting a lot faster at hitting the proportions and linework without second-guessing every stroke. There’s a certain logic to it that clicks better now; it’s almost like troubleshooting a system where you just know where the lines need to go to make it work.
Fern is a cool character to draw because she’s so funny, but getting that expression right in a sketchbook while keeping the flow of her hair natural is a nice challenge for a 60-minute window. It feels good to finally get some graphite on paper again.
